I found a deer tick on [livejournal.com profile] gosling after we got home from Baitcon, which could have been there since Friday afternoon for all we know. So, check yourselves for ticks, and check your kids too! Deer ticks are tiny, so look carefully. And, next year it would be a good idea to do what we did not and check yourselves and your kids at least once a day.

Found two of them on smiles - one on her arm during the con, one in her hair later. I think they came from the grass near the bridge to nowhere.

Any tips for looking for them in dark hair, presuming I can find someone to do so?

Never had one in my hair, but I think you could check yourself: feel around for bumps that shouldn't be there. If you find something odd, ask someone too look if it's a tick.

Gaaa
Hope all is well.
(I did my best to look, but I also don't have any confidence that I would find if there were one. Been terrified of the things since Baitcon '07.)

Yes, hmark42 had two deer ticks as well. Not sure how long they were there, he never checked himself. Regardless, he called the dr & will get a preventative antibiotic (he may have it already).

Maybe it would be worth announcing 'tick check!' occasionally during the con?
