This coming weekend, I'll be going to Baitcon with my 12 and 10 year olds. Yes, that means I'm leaving the 4 year old home with his awesome father. I'll miss the boys, but, quite honestly, I need to get away from the preschooler for a few days and work on my inner peace! :)  I'm hoping to catch up with friends, go on some lovely walks, spend time with my big kids, take photos, maybe play some games, engage in some journal writing, and, of course, enjoy some ice cream.

We will be camping along with our awesome housemates [livejournal.com profile] red_canna and [livejournal.com profile] primal_pastry and their kids. Just follow the sounds of joy. Or giggling. Or screaming. You'll probably find me nearby.

I realize [livejournal.com profile] primal_pastry and I look somewhat similar, and we are both often to be found in the presence of the awesome [livejournal.com profile] red_canna (she more than I, obviously!). Yes, we are both caucasian and brunette and fabulous. Please to remember: I'm the blue-eyed one with the shoulder-length hair that is turning gray. She is the brown-eyed one with long dark-brown hair and awesome tattoos. We like to be identified correctly. :)

Food for thought?

http://hackaday.com/2014/05/23/homemade-liquid-nitrogen/

As far as DIY cryonics are concerned, dry ice is easy mode. You can get frozen carbon dioxide at WalMart, or from a nozzle that screws onto a CO2 tank. It’s all very ordinary, and not really special at all. Want to know what’s cool? Making liquid nitrogen at home.

7:45pm Monday and we're ready to roll off the mountain.

It was wonderful.

Thank you all.

We did it!

... and it was good!

I asked a number of people over the weekend, but wanted to put it out more widely: If you have pictures from this or any other year in digital format, I would very much appreciate it if you would send me originals (or reasonable jpgs, if you shoot raw) - I can grab them pretty much any way you can think of.

I hate having to rely on flickr/facebook/picasa/whatever.

If you have film from older ones, let's talk about getting scans...

(Also, as someone pointed out you can include pictures that people don't want published online.)

Sunday I kept thinking about a Sweet-Potato Strawberry purée, either as an ice cream or a sorbet. I have no idea how to make the base without some kind of juicer but it should be done.

Overall:
5 very nice days up a mountain away from the heat (including helping to organise during the tear-down)
2 mild rain events
1 partial Lunar Eclipse (doubtless seen by someone beyond the trees)
180 people, about a third of whom I got to talk to, including
OODLES of kids
MANY people walking on newfangled stilts (NOT me)
4 brains picked (knowingly or not)
(forgot-how-many) ice cream flavours,
25 percent of which I sampled
5 doses of Lactaid® chewable tablets
LOTS of good food
COUNTLESS trips to the loo
70 or so photos 2b posted later
2 trips to the Temple beneath melodic wind chimes, plus "walking the plank" off the mountain
1 minor blister under the left toe.

MUsic:
I played in the rhythm section for the Contra dance.
I sang "Jabbercroce" ("Jabberwocky" to the tune of "You Don't Mess Around With Jim") when the poem inevitably came up in conversation, thereby representing for the filk community singing 300 miles to the south.
Plus one lesson in Japanese drumming.

Sit-down games played:
2 sessions of new-edition Cosmic Encounter
1 session of Ingenious, whose hex-grid prompted me to codify the rules of the Sartine game Ssaotijye mentioned in my writing (to be posted later)
2 sittings of Mah Jong, taught patiently by AmQ; won 2 games, almost won two others but I did something stupid. Yes, whatever you do will be wrong.

Transportation there and back again was safe, on time and incident-free, thanks to BaitMom (within whose car I slept), Metro North & NYC subways.

At the end of my energy day, I returned home to the roommate's demand that I find the Les Mis CD that does not exist in our collection. No, "Hello, did you enjoy your trip?" or anything.

{Yeah, I know. We've already discussed this.}

Time to pay the rent & buy Rx & non-food items I ran out of.
