Food for thought?

As far as DIY cryonics are concerned, dry ice is easy mode. You can get frozen carbon dioxide at WalMart, or from a nozzle that screws onto a CO2 tank. It’s all very ordinary, and not really special at all. Want to know what’s cool? Making liquid nitrogen at home.

certainly; and believe me there have been quite a few discussions about the possibility of making our own LN2. While this is an excellent hack, it's not feasable for us to generate the amount Baitcon blows through with such a small setup, and even this "small" setup takes up way more space than the large dewars we procure. And we'd still need big dewars for storage. And boy, would running that compressor for the 8 weeks or so we would need to generate the amount of LN2 we use at Baitcon run up the electrical bill. That doesn't count that the dewars bleed off LN2 while sitting there; so it would really be more than 8 weeks. Without doing a bunch more math, i can't even say if the setup shown could produce LN2 faster than an XL-240 dewar loses it to thermal leakage. Nope, this is a case where the large-scale industrial suppliers are the cheap and easy way to go. Cool hack, though, one that I've always wanted to do some day.
