Baitcon Data Experiment
Jun. 15th, 2013 08:36 pmAs someone of you may have noticed, bandwidth for smartphones during Baitcon is usually awful. However if you're at the site early or late, the available bandwidth is usually significantly better.
So I'd like propose an experiment. See if it's possible to turn of data on your smartphone (except for when you want to quickly peek at your email).
The problem with smartphones is that even when you're not actively using them, they're constantly checking for software updates, new emails, Facebook updates, syncing your address book, ...
If everyone cuts down on their data usage, hopefully there will be more bandwidth available for when you want it.
p.s. Could folks that have Smartphones post directions for how to toggle data usage for their phones in the comments.
Edit: If you're not expecting anyone to call, you could put your phone into airplane mode and turn off both voice and data. (or turn your phone off completely and enjoy some quiet time in the woods).
