6 weeks to Baitcon!

baitconBaitcon XVIII is now just six weeks away! If you are planning on attending but haven't yet RSVP'd, you may want to consider dropping us a line soon because after June 20th, the rates will rise. Comments and/or discussion here on LJ or on IRC or even in person are generally NOT considered RSVPs.
The website was updated this evening - the rideboard is up, the lodging page has been updated and there are some pictures of the new site (though not the map or big overview as of yet). www.baitcon.org
The next website update will happen around June 23rd and will include information about what to bring, logistics, weather forecast link, tentative menus and hopefully some info about a few cool things we're going to have happening during the weekend.
If you have spare carpet pieces to donate and/or solar-powered path lanterns (the type for driveways or backyards) that you would be willing loan us, please contact Kimberly.

Date: 2007-06-20 10:01 pm (UTC)1. These break really easily. I don't mean "doesn't work" kind of break, I mean the lights SNAP RIGHT OFF their posts if you breathe on them too hard. If someone tries to force them into not-soft-enough ground, or holds it by the head instead of the post while doing it, they will break in half. If someone trips over one, it will break in half. Given the propensity of susboids to get a bigger hammer, I forsee a lot of potential for coming home with very few lights. Several of mine are already broken in half by me, and I *know* how delicate they are.
2. These are NOT bright enough to actually light a path. They can look pretty, or serve as a beacon ("Outhouse is over here!"), but not show you the ground 12 inches away.
3. They do not last all night, especially not if the day was cloudy or they didn't get a full day's sun. They last several hours, but definitely not til morning.
I'm willing to bring 8 or so of them, because I decided I don't like the bluish color of the LEDs very much anyway, and if they die for the cause, so be it. Let me know.
