Adventures in Ice Cream Making Humor
Jul. 18th, 2007 10:34 amSo all of my Baitcon flavors that are going to be mixed in advance are ready and waiting to go. There were 2 humorous moments that I had to share with you all.
Last night, when I checked on the frozen baggies of ceviche sorbet from the previous night, I discovered that you should never put a baggie full of liquid into a freezer drawer that is a wire basket. Why? Because before it freezes the baggie full of liquid will conform to the shape of the wire, then freeze solid with the wire embedded in it like a tree that has grown around a chainlink fence. Oops! Let that be a lesson to those of us with freezer drawers made of wire.
The other humorous moment came this morning when I checked the fridge to see how my chocolate saffron ganache had done as it cooled overnight. As it turned out, what was a nice smooth sauce last night with the consistency of Heinz 57 was a mostly solid mass like a lump of playdough this morning. For a moment, I had the irresistable urgh to take it out of its bag and play with it like a lump of modelling clay. Can you just imagine the mess that would have made as the chocolate warmed and melted in my hands? Heh. I can just imagine calling in to work to explain that I was going to be late because I was trying to wash the chocolate off my hands.....Sometimes my inner 5 year old really isn't very far from the surface.
