Yeah, this is rather last-minute to be looking for tips as it's too late for us to reasonably acquire anything that someone here doesn't have for us to borrow, but it seemed worth an inquiry...

DD and I will be at Baitcon with our insanely cute 3-month-old. (In fact, his three-month birthday is at Baitcon. Plus nine months is exactly one year and yep, we will happily embarrass him with that factoid for years to come. :) The fabulous BCC have reserved cabin space for us, though we will also be bringing a tent. My feeling is that a nice big bugproof tent would be more comfortable, but DD thinks a cabin is better. In any case, backup seems like a good idea.

What I don't know is where/how he should sleep. We don't have a pack&play or any other sleep-thing that could come to Baitcon. Right now he beds in with us, but on an air mattress that may or may not stay firm all night depending on weather and whatnot, that seems potentially fraught. (We'll bring a travel swing for naps. And of course there's the carseat...)

Any advice, tips, etc? Maybe you have just the right item that you can bring and we can use for the weekend? Something else?

Julian looks forward to meeting y'all. :)

We're bringing both a pack n' play and a peapod; one of them might work for you. I'm hoping Smiles will sleep in the peapod which would give you the pack n' play to work with.

But we're stopping over tonight in the Berkshires, so I need to ge ton the road now. See you tomorrow!

We did exactly this last year. We made sure to get a cabin with bunk beds, and the sleeping arrangement was me on the top bunk, Benjamin on the bottom bunk and [livejournal.com profile] gosling and Peter on a queen-size air mattress. Some cabins have twin beds, which don't leave room for an air mattress, but can be removed (unlike the bunks, which are built-in).

The air mattress didn't actually work very well, as the way it sags down around a person lying in it made it hard for her to nurse Peter. She was already having a lot of difficulty with nursing at the time, so I don't know to what extent this is likely to be an issue for you. [livejournal.com profile] ceelove graciously lent us the mat she uses for Thai massage, and I borrowed a couple of mattresses from another cabin where they weren't using the beds, duct-taped them together and put the mat on top, and that worked great. This year we expect the air mattress will work fine, as Peter is bigger and nurses just fine.

Now I'm wondering if there are any other late-March babies among regular Baitcon-goers. :-)

Since a bad first experience with baby at Baitcon, involving a leaking air mattress, we've brought extra foam pads, Thermarests, and yoga mats and placed them on top of the camp mattresses pulled from the bed frames, making a reasonably cushy, leakproof, double-sized bed. Anyway, some stacked combination of thinner foamy pads plus some blankets and sheets for at least 1 adult + baby to sleep on, or all of you if y'all can sleep that cozily, with pillows, rolled towels, or other soft things serving as barriers to keep baby from rolling onto the floor if you're not in bed with him.

I can't say we have any extra of such lying around for this weekend, though, but maybe you have some things that'd be useful when similarly stacked?

My youngest is 16 years old, so anything we might have had has been given away ages ago. We *did* have a portable play pen that we used; also we'd gotten a 'rocking chair' -- looked like a car seat but emphatically wasn't, being lighter weight in general. This was cause he gurgled when he slept (that the doctor said ws nothing, his lungs were clear, his head was clear...) but having him sleeping slightly tilted up made it less. Supposedly one wouldn't be able to find these now, because omg someone might think it's a carseat... but it's a thought. Definitely think about repurposing other things -- as long as he'll sleep in/on them, does it matter if it was *intended* for baby to sleep on?

I thoroughly recommend *against* air mattresses, unless it's a small one just for him.

Hootie was a little bit older than Julian at his first baitcon. We did a cabin with air mattress on the floor. Hootie slept on mommy's chest or daddy's chest and that worked well both for warmth and for keeping him from getting squashed etc. I sleep easily on my back and woke at the drop of a hat whenever he squirmed so I never felt like he was in any danger.

YMMV....
