My personal issues with baitcon are in my personal journal; however, there are a few things that IMHO need to change:

  • Separate dishes/mixing equipment/etc. for any ice cream product containing meat. There are a lot of people involved who nominally keep kosher, and it's discomfiting to know that one's ice cream might have been prepared using the same equipment as, say, the chicken liver ice cream. (for that matter, I'd just ban meat-containing flavors entirely, but that's not my decision to make.)
  • More whole wheat (not just wheat, whole wheat) bread, less white bread. We ran out of whole wheat by lunch on Saturday. (this suggestion passed on from Gregorian, who was amazingly polite about it, but still really would have preferred whole wheat bread for his peanut butter sandwich...)
  • More tarpage for shade protection (may not be an issue if baitcon isn't at Mink Hollow anymore, but...)
  • Re-reinforcement of the "modest dress" (ahem) requirement in and around the main area. There was one person in particular who seriously violated this. (insert serious snarkage here; I am trying to be polite.) Dancing naked in the rain, as usual, should be granted leniency.

I thought I would share some of my impressions:

1) Local Auto is very honest and very helpful. didn't over charge the woman from another state.

2) Folic acid taken 2 days before and during baitcon worked. I am usually sweet meat to skeeters. On Friday nihgt I deeted 1/2 my body. No bits. On Saturday night I deeted only my head. No bits. YMMV. But I'd rather take a vitamin that is good for me then chemicals that aren't nice to my skin. I stil breakout horribly with suncreen or bug stuff.

3) Being adventerous with sampling flavors gave me a couple of new flavors to love: Spicy brains & cucumber sorbet.
(also a few to loathe: onion, and circus peanut. I never tried the chicken liver)

4) Alyssa is growing up wonderfully. Boudicca and Adira are very helpful. Gabriel is going to make a great dad someday. these kids wre so helpful to me by keeping an eye on Aileen when she shot out of sight. (it seems Aileen stole the Energizer bunny and ate it while I wasn't looking. she just kept going, ang going.....).

Thank you JB & K and everyone involved.

I've posted far too many pictures at the following locations:

Here for the 1024 x 768 versions (roughly 600K apiece)

Here for the 640 x 480 versions (roughly 250K apiece)

Email me for the ultra-large versions.

The first link above is working now. The second one will be working within
an hour or so, after the upload finishes.

I have done absolutely no post-processing and absolutely no pruning. Clearly a
certain amount of pruning is called for.

Baitcon Welcome bannerPlatypus Rex mascot at BaitconI've uploaded my pictures from the weekend. (There's also a few shots from our trip there and back, but that's part of my weekend. ;-) I hope to add some captions soon, but there's going to be a lot of names I don't know. If we didn't meet, please feel free to drop me a note here or via the album site's guestbook. My relatively-new camera and I are still trying to get this focus thing down, so many of the shots are not as sharp as I would like. This album site lets visitors see (and download) the original images; if you want them, be my guest. I've also added a few of the pictures to my collection of icon-sized images (copy-and-paste HTML for easy use here) but this page may have grown to the point that my ISP is not serving it properly. (The same HTML and image files load fine from my local disk.)

And yes, I've got some kind of thing for taking pictures of people taking pictures.

I'll be making some entries about the weekend in my own journal. I had fun and ate well, and I hope to see you again next year. (And play some of those instruments we brought along that never got out of their cases.)

[Edit Tue Aug 2]: 16 photos missed my first upload. (I knew the count was low, but sometimes the site is slow to update.) They're there now.

My apologies to those who've already read this; nothing new to see here. But if you haven't seen this, then maybe there should be friending afoot...

I will add my voice to the chorus: Baitcon was, quite simply, FABULOUS. I just now am even close enough to coherent to find the correct keys to type. Some thoughts do remain in my head, such as 'It's pretty funny to look around during a concert and realize that most of the band are clean-shaven and the long-haired freaky-fun hippies are all in the audience' (the band was really great, despite their overall hirsute paucity). I hope lots and lots of new friends find this post; ergo I'm not locking it even one little bit. Which, of course, has a tendency to limit the content. But....

Yes, I am so very much more appreciative of my hot shower and flush toilet and the fact that rain drumming outside does not send me running to zip my tent windows closed, but I must say that having grown up in a very non-demonstrative and critical household (dare I say cold and inhibitive? Yep.), it was just this side of Nirvana to be among people whom I knew had to exist somewhere in the world. To be with They who understand that everyone has his/her own special beauty. And that touching, stroking, compliments, hugging and kissing are not necessarily (or even usually) a prelude to sexual involvement. But that love and acceptence are as important as food and water for our survival. And that we all have warts, somewhere. A whole slather of folks to connect to and to have the time to actually have conversations beyond the party-talk that tends to run more superficial than I'd like. And, when I thought I couldn't hold one more bit of Wonderful, there was lavender ice cream.

And after all this, I still can't even begin to describe how grateful I was to be a part of it.

And publicly, without any cuts or limitations, I wish to thank (and hug and kiss) [livejournal.com profile] jbsegal and [livejournal.com profile] kimberlogic and [livejournal.com profile] tamidon and [livejournal.com profile] donnad for the unbelievable work they all put into this. Damn, people. You've done this 17 TIMES?!

Diet starts today. I will force myself to eat nothing but watermelon in grievous penance for all the wonderful ice cream evil baaaaad food I had this weekend. Yes, I will suffer for my Days of Wayward Pleasure.

[skips off to do lotsa laundry]

ADDENDUM: It is now a few hours later and I am caught up with LJ and email. My cut toe did not get infected, despite prowling around the creek clothed and otherwise. I have two mosquito bites on my tummy just exactly where the waistband hits me and...what is this spoon with Ben&Jerry's on it doing in my mouth?
