Hi, I'm Rachel, the one with the fuzzy dog. (As opposed to the multiple Rachels without).

I had a great time at the parts of Baitcon for which I was actually present. This was my first one, and I'll definitely be back next year! Brodie also had a blast, and sends lots of fuzzy fuzzy love. Sorry about the woofing. We're working on it; I promise.

For those people who expressed concern about [livejournal.com profile] bester, he is doing much, much better. He passed the kidney stone (or "little Jimmy Hoffa", as I've been calling it) about an hour ago, and has spent most of the day hopped up on Percocet and NSAIDs. I wouldn't trust him to operate a doorknob today, much less heavy machinery, but yay for narcotics, 'cause they work. ;)

I want to extend heartfelt thanks - and I think I can safely speak for [livejournal.com profile] bester here as well - to the many many people who helped us out this weekend. The kindness, compassion and patience shown by the hosts and attendees at Baitcon was truly humbling. People we didn't even know checked to make sure we were okay, brought us food, made sure we were comfortable, fetched, carried, and did God only knows whatall else. Actually, so did people we did know. Special thanks to the medical folks there who took time out from what should have been a relaxing con experience for them to assist [livejournal.com profile] bester at all hours. And to Dr. Jen, I don't know who the hell you are on here, but you are the Bestest Samaritan Evar, and we owe you many, many frosty beverages. (Dr. Jen took us to the ER, helped us navigate the various medical personnel, got us stuff we needed, sat with us the entire seven hours, and brought us back. We heart Dr. Jen). JB, you rock like fucking Gibraltar. If I tried to name everyone who helped us out, I'd forget people, so I won't, but I do want to acknowledge [livejournal.com profile] mytheria as The World's Greatest Girlfriend, particularly since she managed to pack us up and get us out of there without serious mishap.

So yeah. I wasn't around for much of Baitcon, because I was off tending to [livejournal.com profile] bester, but when I was, people were damn good to us, and I'm grateful. Didn't want that to go unsaid.

See y'all next year, this time hopefully without any emergencies!

I'm going to try to do another Baitcon Cookbook in time for BCXX. (since we just had BCXVIII, I will assume it will be two years from now.) So once again I am collecting recipes.

I will include all the recipes that are already in the first BC cookbook, but there have been many new flavors created ond old ones modified since the first one. So if you want your recipes to be included you need to get them to me. Either via email (lj email works), or leave it here for me to find (lj comments are emailed to me) . Or make sure it gets written in the notebook at BC next.

I want to include pictures. If you DON'T want your picture in the book (yes I got complaints I didn't ask to use specific pictures,) Then tell me now! Don't whine at me after the fact. (long rant about who owns pictures etc. deleted.)

Folks, if you have pictures I can choose from to include, let me know where I can find them on-line. Or they can be dropped on a CD and snailmailed to me.

When I logged in to check my mail this morning I had already received two recipes for the new book for flavors that were new this year. Yay! Thanks (you know who you are!)

So recipes, here or via email is good. Thanks.

And Thanks JB and Kimberly for throwing yet another great party!

I have dumped the unpruned and unretouched contents of my SD card at

http://www.homeport.org/~wotw/baitcon.07

I hope to go back and do some pruning and de-red-eying, but for now it's all there for those
who were eager to see themselves (or others) as fast as possible.

Ideally, you'd click on these 640x480 versions to see the hi-res versions; in practice I have
not uploaded most of the hi-res versions. I'll be very glad to upload hi-res versions one by
one on request.

Thanks to JB, Kimberly, JB's mom, and the whole BCC. Actually "thanks" seems like a pretty
inadequate word here. I wish I had a better one.

with advance apologies for the very slow speed at which these will download, here are my photos from the weekend. (EDIT: thumbnails now hosted at CMU for the moment, so they'll load much faster! larger sizes still hosted at my site, so still slow.)

...did anyone get any photos of ENSMB's performance? or the contra dance?

but Adira is better,sort of.

She has gastroenteritis caused by a virus.This has impact on those who spent time with her all weekend,like 176 of my closest friends.If you get sick,here's a good bet.She got IV fluids and will be doing the fluids,nintendo and tv thing tomorrow.My apologies if you or your children get this.Hopefully it will be of short duration.

I am bad mother in that,while getting her looked at in the ER for severe abdominal cramping,I did have the small thought in the back of my mind "but...but...I only have 50 pages left in harry Potter,can't this wait 20 minutes?"

I had a lovely time, marred only by my son being sniffly and clingy, which isn't exactly under your control. And even the weather was perfect. Next year, I'll try to find the stream. :)

It's a beautiful site, and I'd happily go back next year, even if they charge more per person.

I've posted 58 pictures at http://pics.livejournal.com/tigerbright/gallery/0000whg3 if you'd like to take a look; includes pictures I took on a short walk Sunday morning in the general direction of the Pod (didn't get all the way there), silks, socializing, and lots of children under 3.

A quick dive into LJ shows me 225 posts that have happened since my last log-in and most of them are either about HP or about Baitcon.

I heart my Tribe.

Thanks to everyone for what was such an unbelievably fabulous weekend. It's hard to put into words how amazingly special our community is. Totally worth a trans-Atlantic flight. Much gratitude for the hugs and cuddles and catching-up. And unutterable thanks to JB and [livejournal.com profile] kimberlogic and [livejournal.com profile] tamidon and [livejournal.com profile] doze_e_fish and the BCC for making it look like it was no effort at all. You guys are the bestest best.

If there had only been a Baitcon, we would have been thankful.

And if there had been Baitcon with yummy food carefully supplied for us by [livejournal.com profile] tamidon and many others, we'd have been satisfied. And well-fed.

And if there'd been a Baitcon with 84 flavors of ice cream not counting the Sunday ones we would have been delighted and surprised and intrigued (and occasionally a bit horrified).

And if there'd been a Baitcon in a lovely new site with lots of room to spread out and entertain ourselves with circus and music and camp fires and games and streams and woods and labyrinths, we would have been amused and soothed and relaxed

And if there'd been a Baitcon with 170+ people (not all of whom I got to spend as much time with as I would have liked) and mostly, as far as I could see, happy smiling people ... we would have been hugged. A lot.

How much more thankful and satisfied and delighted and surprised and amused and soothed and relaxed and hugged, then, are we today when
* we had a lovely Baitcon
* with terrific food
* and 84 flavors of ice cream
* and music and circus and camp fires and games and streams and woods and labyrinths and a contra dance
* and lots of people
* and hot showers
* AND flush toilets

Dayenu!
(Next year at Baitcon!)

but seriously A huge thank you to [livejournal.com profile] jbsegal and [livejournal.com profile] kimberlogic and the entire BCC.
