Con Crud?

Hey folks. I started sneezing on Monday at Baitcon, and on the way home, I developed many more symptoms of some kind of flu/cold. So, I've got: sore throat (which was bad at first but is better now), stuffy nose, low-grade fever (up to 100), body aches, a bit of a cough, and diarrhea. I'm wondering if anyone else is experiencing these symptoms, and if so, how worried should we be about the possibility of H1N1? I guess I'll drag my ass in to the doctor tomorrow, but just wondering what others have experienced.

P.S. It was worth it. Ilana and I both had a great time.

Not that I was at Baitcon this year (alas! instead I was in France...), but I've got the same symptoms and was in a high-incidence H1N1 area, and it's been a mild-ish 3 day flu . So, I can't offer information on how you caught it, but if it's H1N1 you don't need to worry too much unless you've got severe underlying respiratory or immune issues.

AFAIK, none of the folks I was hanging with and have talked to since have shown this. I think you're on your own.

Out of that list, I have everything but the fever and diarrhea and I'm still in the sore throat stage. Rest of my family seems fine though...

Slight fever now. 99.1 degrees. All my symptoms are responding to tylenol and decongestants.

I've seen a few people complain about coming home with a bad head cold. Definitely call the doctor to find out what they think about the H1N1 risk. That said, I would be expecting to see a much higher fever for a flu.

I seem to have developed a sore throat as of yesterday. At the moment, it has not progressed beyond that.

I have a stuffy, sore head and nose, tiredness, and the beginnings of a cough as whatever I've got drops from my head into my chest, but I'm pretty sure it's a run-of-the-mill cold, as I have no fever or body aches. I know a bunch of other people who have symptoms like mine, but haven't heard of any with the worse ones you have. I hope you feel better fast!

I spent a lot of time talking with you and Ilana, I even tasted some ice cream from your spoon on Sunday, So far I'm doing okay. I'm still tired, but no sneezing, coughing, gastrointestinal stuff or fever. I'll let you know if anything comes up, but so far I'm okay.

FWIW. I have sneezed a few times this afternoon just since I posted the above comment and my throat is a bit scratchy now. Taking more zinc and vitamin C. Hopefully I can ward this off. At least I still have some Codeine based cough syrup from the last time I was sick if I start coughing.

FWIW, I was feeling the beginnings of a cold on the flight back (NOT fun). But I feel fine now, a day later.

medical PSA from Dr. Jen
Some folks found ticks on themselves during & after Baitcon. Please be sure that you check yourself thoroughly. Sometimes, despite efforts to get the nearly-invisibly-small critters off before they have a chance to spread trouble, ticks can cause Lyme Disease.

If you or someone you know gets muscle aches and/or flu-like symptoms in the next 1-3 weeks, mention to your clinician that you've been to an area with deer ticks. (Whether or not you choose to mention the strawberry habanero ice cream is up to you.)

And if you get a rash that looks like these -- like a "bullseye" or a target -- get thee to medical attention forthwith.

Hope you feel better soon! I'm still trying to kick the sinus infection that's been bothering me for a week now. It started from a mild cold, though. Take care of you!

My sore throat just started. But like you said, it's totally worth it! :)

Any further update?
