post-baitcon feedback
Aug. 1st, 2005 11:42 amMy personal issues with baitcon are in my personal journal; however, there are a few things that IMHO need to change:
- Separate dishes/mixing equipment/etc. for any ice cream product containing meat. There are a lot of people involved who nominally keep kosher, and it's discomfiting to know that one's ice cream might have been prepared using the same equipment as, say, the chicken liver ice cream. (for that matter, I'd just ban meat-containing flavors entirely, but that's not my decision to make.)
- More whole wheat (not just wheat, whole wheat) bread, less white bread. We ran out of whole wheat by lunch on Saturday. (this suggestion passed on from Gregorian, who was amazingly polite about it, but still really would have preferred whole wheat bread for his peanut butter sandwich...)
- More tarpage for shade protection (may not be an issue if baitcon isn't at Mink Hollow anymore, but...)
- Re-reinforcement of the "modest dress" (ahem) requirement in and around the main area. There was one person in particular who seriously violated this. (insert serious snarkage here; I am trying to be polite.) Dancing naked in the rain, as usual, should be granted leniency.

Date: 2005-08-01 04:57 pm (UTC)The meat-and-carbs issue is a constant issue -- though I hope that whole wheat bread isn't on your list of bad foods... There were some nice salads Friday night and Saturday day, but after that, not much.

Actually, whole wheat bread works fine; it's the refined wheat (like hot dog rolls) that my colon hates. It's like glue, y'know?

Date: 2005-08-01 09:33 pm (UTC)Wow. I have to say I am just flabbergasted to read this comment. Maybe universal tolerance of other people's bodies is only ever going to be an ideal, but I've always been really happy that the suspects / Boston / alternative / whatever-you-call-us crowd is nowhere near as condemning of deviations from the current idea of attractiveness as most of American society is. Asking for a given standard of clothing coverage is one thing and maybe worth discussing; but why did you have to add the hurtful put-down? I don't even know who it is you mean, and I feel terrible for them.

Brave is one word.
But if you had addressed this person to their face, would you have used the words "hairy ass"?

i can't as yet find any actual rules on clothing or dress on the baitcon website. it's probably common sense to not romp nude where the general public might accidentally see, but otherwise? i don't know the official stand.

Date: 2005-08-02 08:02 pm (UTC)We've had a bit of on-going discussion about what's appropriate, but we've so far failed to come up with a set of rules. "Naked by the house on if it's raining" seems a bit arbitrary.Measuring people's skirt length is something I don't want to get in to. "Keep your naked (hairy/smooth/shapely/flat) ass off the couches - bring a towel with you" is probably fine. "Wear underwear" is right out. "Street legal" is annoying and again arbitrary.
The discussion will continue.

Date: 2005-08-04 09:06 am (UTC)That's pretty much the rule at naturist/nudist camps. Nudity is fine, but passing on bodily fluids is not.
It sounds like the direction is fairly liberal.
