[identity profile] quietann.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] baitcon
My personal issues with baitcon are in my personal journal; however, there are a few things that IMHO need to change:

  • Separate dishes/mixing equipment/etc. for any ice cream product containing meat. There are a lot of people involved who nominally keep kosher, and it's discomfiting to know that one's ice cream might have been prepared using the same equipment as, say, the chicken liver ice cream. (for that matter, I'd just ban meat-containing flavors entirely, but that's not my decision to make.)
  • More whole wheat (not just wheat, whole wheat) bread, less white bread. We ran out of whole wheat by lunch on Saturday. (this suggestion passed on from Gregorian, who was amazingly polite about it, but still really would have preferred whole wheat bread for his peanut butter sandwich...)
  • More tarpage for shade protection (may not be an issue if baitcon isn't at Mink Hollow anymore, but...)
  • Re-reinforcement of the "modest dress" (ahem) requirement in and around the main area. There was one person in particular who seriously violated this. (insert serious snarkage here; I am trying to be polite.) Dancing naked in the rain, as usual, should be granted leniency.

Though I had a fantabulous time (and didn't even get nekkid in the rain, so I know you couldn't be snarking about me!), I would add that there was entirely too much meat and carbs. There were a few apples and some lycee fruit, which was very welcome.

My colon will need some TLC, but it was worth it. ;-D

By the later part of lunch on Sunday there was yummy avacado and a lentil/feta salad...

You're assuming that my ass isn't hairy. ;-P

(Ok, I know, you've probably seen it for yourself at this point and know better. Still, one tries to be Mysterious.)

Actually, whole wheat bread works fine; it's the refined wheat (like hot dog rolls) that my colon hates. It's like glue, y'know?

That is, cover one's HAIRY ass already, 'kay?

Wow. I have to say I am just flabbergasted to read this comment. Maybe universal tolerance of other people's bodies is only ever going to be an ideal, but I've always been really happy that the suspects / Boston / alternative / whatever-you-call-us crowd is nowhere near as condemning of deviations from the current idea of attractiveness as most of American society is. Asking for a given standard of clothing coverage is one thing and maybe worth discussing; but why did you have to add the hurtful put-down? I don't even know who it is you mean, and I feel terrible for them.

Oh, I understand that you were upset that the rule was violated. I'm still wondering, what was the mean-spirited jab for?

Of course, had I been a little bit more brave, I would have said something to him about it.

Brave is one word.

But if you had addressed this person to their face, would you have used the words "hairy ass"?

well, one of the stated rules is:
"Do not harass, threaten or otherwise treat anyone in a disrespectful or inappropriate manner. Respect property as well - both Baitcon's stuff and the site, as well as cars, people's stuff, etc." http://www.baitcon.org/info.html

i can't as yet find any actual rules on clothing or dress on the baitcon website. it's probably common sense to not romp nude where the general public might accidentally see, but otherwise? i don't know the official stand.

It hasn't been for a while.

We've had a bit of on-going discussion about what's appropriate, but we've so far failed to come up with a set of rules. "Naked by the house on if it's raining" seems a bit arbitrary.Measuring people's skirt length is something I don't want to get in to. "Keep your naked (hairy/smooth/shapely/flat) ass off the couches - bring a towel with you" is probably fine. "Wear underwear" is right out. "Street legal" is annoying and again arbitrary.

The discussion will continue.

"Keep your naked (hairy/smooth/shapely/flat) ass off the couches - bring a towel with you" is probably fine.

That's pretty much the rule at naturist/nudist camps. Nudity is fine, but passing on bodily fluids is not.

It sounds like the direction is fairly liberal.

Did I miss where the rule was stated?

As I'm pretty sure I know who (or rather what, as I don't know him personally) Ann is referring to here -- trust me, he could have been shaped like Michaelangelo's David, and the outfit he was wearing would still have been out of bounds in the common areas.

I'll take your word for it. But my issue isn't with the rule, or with wanting or not wanting to enforce the rule. My issue is with the mean remark. Personally, if I don't find someone's appearance stunningly attractive, I keep it to myself, especially in a public forum, and doubly so when the person might be reading it.

If this "feedback" is about modesty, then let's keep it to modesty; if [livejournal.com profile] quietann's real feeling is that only unattractive people should be modest, then she needs to hand out a list of who meets her criteria. Because I definitely saw a few people returning from the shower naked and some women who were topless for various reasons, and they don't seem to have inspired quite the same level of, uh, feeling.

How would you write the bounds? (See my reply to Ann's comment a few above this.)

If it were my party, I'd suggest: "Don't wear anything that's likely to give the landlords a seizure if they happen to wander onsite."

But, pertinently, it's not my party, so if there's to be a policy other than common sense, it gets to be yours. :)

:half smile: I was interpreting the 'hairy' part as "no, no, male not female"...
