For some reason I have recently remembered a flavor of ice cream I have only tasted in Canada, and that was decades ago. It's called "tiger stripe," "tiger tail," or "tiger tiger," and it's orange ice cream or sherbet with a black licorice swirl. I know that this probably sounds really weird to most people, but I remember loving it and now I am obsessed with the idea of making some for Baitcon.

Problem is, I can't find a recipe for either the specific flavor or for making a licorice swirl. I'm not sure if my google-fu is not up to the task or if Canadians never make it themselves at home. :-} I don't suppose any Canadians who happen to read this could help me out?

i never made any ice cream until going to baitcon, so i'm probably useless. That said, it's not usually a sorbet (actually, i've never heard of it as such), it was orange ice cream and licorice ice cream, swirled. orange is pretty easy, but this licorice ice cream looks tasty: http://www.chow.com/recipes/10430

oddly, though i love black licorice, i've never been a tiger tail fan.

Didn't someone do a Tiger stripe before? I don;t know if it was orange and licorice, might have been chocolate.
Look back through the ice cream lists and see if there is a name attached.

I have about 40 different ice cream cookbooks, I don't have time to go through them now, but later I'll look and get back to you if I find something you might use to start with.

Also, you might look for a licorice syrup or ice cream topping that you could swirl in to orange ice cream or sorbet.

As it turns out I have several licorice ice cream recipes. Some use fennel, some anise and some use actual pureed licorice candy.

If you want I can type them in for you so you can get an idea of what goes into them.

I used to get tiger tails when I was a kid. Not sure if it was chocolet or something else but this sounds yumny.

Weird ice cream flavors at Baitcon? SHOCKING!

would you put actual licorice in it? or an anise flavored swirl? Either way it sounds really good.
