I'm thinking to borrow an air mattress for this weekend, but I'm realizing that most of my memories of "all manner of people seem to have air mattresses" are from Mink Hollow, when the distances from Power/Cars were far shorter.

Those of you who've used air mattresses at the current locale -- how have you gone about inflating them and getting them into tents what with the distances to where we camp?

Aigh. How did it get to be the end of June already? Need to buy amaretto and habaneros.

Use a battery-operated or electric pump up near the kitchen & "Living Room" then carry them to your tent.

It came with my mattress; i have an Aero Bed. Depending on what type of connector for inflating your mattress had, there are any number of options.

You might be able to pre-plan borrowing the use of someone's pump for your mattress. Otherwise the camping section of walmart or target or kmart will have one.

I have a mattress and battery powered pump to loan, but no way to get it to you/baitcon unless you're getting there via Boston (unlikely, I suspect).
My plans currently are to motorcycle there and thus pack light. which means I'll be using my hammock tent instead of bulkier gear so the mattress is available, but also means if I can't pack it for me I can't pack it for anyone else either. I might be able to arrange to send stuff there in someone else's car, but hadn't planned to.

Cool; looks like you're all set via anothernjen, but if that falls through let me know and I'll bring the pump I have (it's small, battery powered?

Eh, I'll pack it anyway... maybe someone else would like to borrow it.

Thank you, I may take you up on that. I just discovered that the charger is missing for my rechargeable pump (and it's too late to order a replacement from coleman). I hope it's somewhere in the depths of the closet, but no signs yet.

I will have a hand pump with me. It's like a bicycle pump and worked great last year. Easily carried to the mattress in situ and used. No lugging the air mattress through the woods.

I have a slightly more complicated method of inflating my air mattress.

I have an inflater that can plug into a cigarette lighter. I also have a portable battery for jump starting cars. It also has a 12V outlet that I can plug the inflater into, so I can inflate the air mattress inside my tent. I can also use the portable battery's outlet to charge my pda via a 12v USB charger.

Mine is a rechargeable battery powered pump that has more than enough oomph for inflation and deflation of many air mattresses on one charge. I just make sure it's full before I leave for Baitcon.

It's pretty fast and while I wouldn't recommend using it if others are trying to sleep next door it's not a banshee shriek heard for miles like SOME pumps.
